The Wood County Museum

What a wonderful sunny day we had at the Wood Co. Historical Museaum. It was great that many of you talked to the curator and practiced your conversational skills. Our brains are full of information and thoughts. Tell me... Would you have liked to have lived here in the home for the mental ill or been here as part of the poor farm? Would you have liked to have retired to this government run facility? Did you realized that the United States had poor farms? What did you think of the lunatic house? What was it about the lunatic asylum that made you feel uncomfortable and like not staying and exploring or reading?

Aside from all of this, what was your favorite part of this field trip? What did you learn from this experience? Try to keep up with your readings of the novel. The month goes faster than you think : ) Dorinda

  1. The ill mental asilum visit was depressing but fortunatelly nowadays the treating of this mental illnes has changed improving the quality of life of the ill people an their families.
This kind of goverment facilities for poor people at this time i find that was a good way to help very poor people, we have ti think that american society didn't was as welthy as today is and for that time this kind of facilities helped to the poorest people.
The favorite part of this field trip was visiting de museum, there I could see old things from the time of the foundation of the city but maany others of the beginings of the twentieth century that I found awesome because many of then I knew in my country and I saw them being used for the people many years ago.

  5. Hank you are most silly...but to some extent you are right...I would also hate to be in a room with my own fecal matter. It would become...well...smelly, especially since you could see that there was no way to really open the windows. (I didn't see any. It is possible that they could) I think that the conditions in the asylum, could only make a person feel worse. I cannot imagine finishing out my days in a place like that. I also found the place uncomfortable. For me, it is a reminder of the insanity that lies within all of us and how frightening it is to loose control of our minds. It also is a reminder of how we, as mostly sane people, would not want to be treated if we were insane. It is also a place where much suffering has taken place. This doesn't mean that caregivers treated the patients poorly, it just means that the people who were commited there were internally suffering a lot of personal pain. I'm glad I've not been committed to live there...

  6. Today was wonderful because I went to Historical museum with my teacher and classmate. I don’t have any idea about this place. I like everything in this house especial dining room it was modern style but I dislike the life methods because no electricity it is difficult to life in this way. At this museum I knew about America history. One building was for mental health its called lunatic asylum.
